My name is Joy Jackson and I’m a sophomore from Memphis, Tennessee. At the University of Miami, I’m majoring in biomedical engineering with a mechanical concentration and minoring in biological physics. When I’m not hitting the books, I’m attending club meetings, working as a tutor through the Athletics Department, or practicing kicks and tackles with members of the rugby team. Yes, I joined the Women’s Club Rugby Team during freshmen year without knowing a single thing about rugby – and I love it! I’m excited to now start getting involved in research, as it’s something I’ve been looking forward to since the first semester of freshman year. After reading about the amazing work that researchers are already doing here, I’m thrilled to start conducting research through this program. Another huge draw to JANUS was the mentorship part of the program. I’m looking forward to mentoring black high school students in the community and creating relationships that I wish I could’ve had as a high schooler |
