Niani is an Atlantan striving for a degree in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering here at the University of Miami. She is now a sophomore serving as Events Chair for the Engineering Student Council (ESC). Niani also serves as Programs Chair for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). When she’s not studying, Niani enjoys taking time to catch up the newest TV series, going for jogs around campus, and learning new recipes. I wanted to participate in the JANUS program because I recognize there is a huge need for young black academics in the research and graduate world today. I am also very interested in the current research being done on organ and tissue development in the hopes to remove the need for organ donors and long wait lists. I think it's incredibly important to learn about your options at a young age, because it was not until high school that I was exposed to the BME world. But, I completely changed my life plans after learning more about what engineering really looks like. |
